Choosing a Projector for Meeting Rooms and Classrooms in the UAE
How to choose a business or education projector in the UAE — brightness, resolution, throw distance, laser vs lamp and connectivity — from Epson, BenQ and Optoma.
A projector is still one of the most cost-effective ways to show large images in meeting rooms, classrooms and training halls. These are the specifications that matter.
Brightness (lumens)
Rooms with daylight or lights on need more brightness. As a guide, 3,500–4,500 lumens suits most meeting rooms and classrooms; large halls and bright rooms need 5,000 lumens or more.
Resolution
- XGA / WXGA: budget classrooms and basic presentations
- Full HD / WUXGA: sharp text and spreadsheets — the best choice for most offices
- 4K: home cinema, design reviews and premium boardrooms
Throw distance
Standard-throw projectors sit at the back of the room. Short-throw and ultra-short-throw models sit close to the screen, avoiding shadows and glare — ideal for classrooms and interactive whiteboards.
Laser vs lamp
Laser projectors cost more upfront but last around 20,000–30,000 hours with consistent brightness and almost no maintenance. Lamp projectors are cheaper to buy but need lamp replacements.
Connectivity
Check for HDMI, wireless screen sharing and network control. Wireless presentation systems such as BenQ InstaShow make it easy for visitors to share from their own laptops.
Matching the room
| Room | Suggested projector |
|---|---|
| Small meeting room | 3,500 lm, Full HD |
| Classroom | 3,500–4,000 lm, short throw |
| Boardroom | 4,500+ lm laser, WUXGA |
| Training hall | 5,000+ lm laser with lens shift |
