The Short Answer

When Importing Makes Sense
- If a specific model is not available in the UAE
- For older/discontinued models available on US Amazon
- When the price difference exceeds AED 500 (covers import duties + risk)
Risks of Importing Laptops to UAE
- No local warranty: Grey imports are not covered by UAE service centres
- Keyboard layout: US/UK keyboards do not have Arabic secondary legends
- Power adapter: Check if the included adapter works on 220-240V
- Customs: UAE customs charges 5% VAT + 5% customs duty on imports above AED 1,000
Our Recommendation
For most UAE residents, buying locally from an authorised retailer like QuickCart (www.quickcartstore.ae) provides peace of mind, local support, and compatible accessories. The small price premium is justified.
