Ubiquiti's UniFi platform is popular in the UAE because one dashboard manages the gateway, switches, Wi-Fi and even cameras and door access. Here is how to plan a UniFi network.

1. Start with a gateway

A UniFi Cloud Gateway or Dream Machine runs the UniFi Network application, handles your internet connection and firewall, and can manage the rest of the system. Larger sites may choose an Enterprise Fortress Gateway or a separate Cloud Key.

2. Choose switches with enough PoE

UniFi switches range from compact Lite models to Pro and Enterprise switches with 2.5G and 10G ports. Add up the power needed by your access points and cameras and choose a switch with headroom in its PoE budget.

3. Place access points by area, not by size

• Ceiling access points (U6, U7 Pro and similar) for offices and shops
• In-wall access points for hotel rooms, apartments and meeting rooms
• Long-range and mesh models for outdoor areas and warehouses

Wi-Fi 7 models such as the U7 series offer more capacity for busy offices.

4. Add cameras and storage if needed

UniFi Protect cameras record to a UniFi NVR or compatible gateway, so you can manage security from the same app.

5. Plan cabling and power

Use a cabinet with a patch panel and protect the core equipment with a UPS.
